    Returns & Refunds

    Changed your mind? No drama. Here is exactly how it works.

    Your 14-day right to change your mind (online orders)

    If you buy from us online, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 give you the right to cancel your order for any reason within 14 days of the day after you receive your books. You do not need to give us a reason, though we are always curious.

    To cancel, just tell us within that 14-day window. Get in touch via our contact page with your order number, or pop into the shop at 144 Market Street, Dalton-in-Furness. Once you have told us, you then have a further 14 days to send the books back to us.

    Refunds

    We will refund you within 14 days of receiving your return (or of you providing proof of postage, whichever is earlier), using the same payment method you used to pay. The refund includes the price of the books and the standard delivery charge you paid on the original order. If you chose a pricier delivery option, we refund up to the cost of our standard delivery.

    Please send books back in the condition you received them. You are welcome to inspect a book as you would in the shop, but if it comes back with more wear than that (cracked spines, coffee rings, sand from your beach holiday), we may reduce the refund to reflect the loss in value.

    Return postage

    If you are returning something because you changed your mind, you cover the cost of return postage. If we sent you a faulty, damaged or wrong item, the return is on us: get in touch and we will sort postage out, along with a replacement or full refund.

    What we cannot take back

    Personalised, stamped and customised books (for example sprayed edges, hand-stamped editions, or anything made to your specification) cannot be returned under the change-of-mind right. The regulations exempt goods that are personalised or made to order, and once your name is on it, it is very much yours. This does not affect your rights if a personalised item arrives faulty or damaged.

    Faulty or damaged books

    Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected by anything on this page. If a book arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund regardless of the 14-day window. Just contact us and we will make it right.

    How to start a return

    Get in touch via our contact page with your order number and what you would like to return, or bring the books (and your order confirmation) into the shop. We will confirm the return address and next steps by reply.
