Friday Mood Recs: Six books to read while coming down from your Artemis II high

Last Friday night I was out to dinner with friends and we started talking about how invested we all became in the Artemis II mission. There was so much to marvel at during those eight days…the courage of the crew, the majesty of space, and the wonder at everything left unseen and unknown. We also talked about the big cliché questions it brought up about meaning, purpose, and our position in the universe. Of course we started talking about books that prompted similar feelings and questions. I had previously recommended Challenger by Adam Higginbotham to these friends and one was in the middle of reading it. If you haven’t read it, pick it up now! It is a gripping story and a comprehensive history of NASA all leading up to the Challenger disaster. But while it is a perfect companion to Artemis II for the history, sense of mission, and science of it all, it’s not a book that necessarily speaks to the wonder and mystery of the experience. So here is the subsequent reading list I gave to my friend of books that use the majesty of space to ask big questions about human existence.
